Candle Care and Safety
We all look forward to lighting our new candle we’ve just purchased and experiencing it for the first time.
There are a few important steps to take to get the most out of your candle.
Upon your first burn ensure your candle melts completely across the top to the glass, this creates its memory. Each burn thereafter will then burn more evenly.
(This can take 2-4 hours depending on size of the candle)
Keeping your wicks trimmed - After your first burn, before your 2nd and subsequent burns we recommend trimming the wicks to 5-6mm each time. This will ensure that the wick isn’t to long causing sooting (black smoke) and the candle to burn too quickly and become to hot.
Burn times- after the first burn which takes the longest, subsequent burns should be no longer than 2-3 hours To avoid candle glass getting to hot.
Putting out your candle- it is best to use a candle snuffer or wick dipper, the wick dipper dips the wick into the wax putting out the flame without any smoke ruining the beautiful fragrance you have in your home. When using the wick dipper be sure to straighten the wicks back into place.
The end of your candle- once you get to the last 1cm of wax, sadly this is the end of your candle. We do not recommend burning past this point. If it is still burning it is time to put it out rather than letting it burn out.
Re use- It’s such a beautiful jar why not find a new use for it (after cleaning it out of course!) you can pop your candle jar in the freezer for a little bit to harden the wax then it should be easier to remove the remaining wax and clean it out. Great for storing makeup brushes or pens!
Candle 101 and things to know
Total burn time for your candle will vary due to environmental conditions and burning habits.
Never leave a lit candle unattended, and do not move the candle while lit or prior to wax solidifying.
Keep lit candle within sight, away from children and pets, and anything flammable
Your glass may become hot when lit, so place candle on a flat and heat resistant surface away from drafty areas, air ducts, fans or near open windows. Ensure the flame does not come into contact with the side of the glass.
If your glass is cracked, chipped or broken you must discontinue use. Our candle glasses and containers are selected for their design and durability, but care must be taken to avoid damage.
Most of all enjoy your candles!!
